It's report card time

It's that time of the school year again and that means I'm neck deep in writing reports.

Pictures of the snow from ISD

One of my colleagues took a few snap shots of the snow around the school grounds.

We officially started Winter Break at noon today and are off until the 4th of January. Once I get my midterm exams graded I'll be able to relax.

2576m

From our Switzerland trip.  This was the small group that were motivated to hike up to the 3rd and highest peak on our route.

Back from Les Collons

We had a great trip. Aside from a light dusting of snow on the first morning, we had perfect weather and the kids were well behaved. This year I hiked with a very motivated group so we even got to hike three peaks, rather than the usual two. I'll post some pictures once I sort through the 500+ I took during the trip.

The only down side to the whole trip is the 12+ hour bus ride back - after being away from home for 5 days it's a really exhausting experience.

Packing for Les Collons

Next Sunday (Sept 14th) I leave for the annual (this is the 6th straight year I've gone) grade 9 field trip to Switzerland. Like the last 4 years, we'll be going to Les Collons, which is in the far south of Switzerland. I actually enjoy the trip, despite it involving 70 or more teenagers.  I've started packing and amongst the items that are "must haves" on the trip:
  • Coffee and maker (I've got an Aerobie)
  • A few books for the trip:  Death Masks (Book 5 of the Dresden Series), Hellyboy Vol 4. - The Right Hand of Doom, and Spione.
  • A full set of rain gear (b/c it almost always rains on a least one day)
  • My camera and a couple GBs worth of memory cards
I'll post some pictures from the trip when I get back

This week at work

I spent most of my free time at work prepping for the grade 9 field trip to Les Collons, Switzerland. The amount of planning and prep work that goes into the trip is pretty massive, although the fact that I've done it before makes things easier.

On Thursday I had to sub for a 6th grade English class which was a really interesting experience:  All of the kids (boys & girls) were really excited about reading (each of them had an actual novel with them) which is something we don't see very much in the high school. It's a shame so many kids lose their enthusiasm for reading sometime around the same time they hit puberty.
